Our Story

Mary Dawson read about Play back Theatre in a book called "Creative Advances in Group Work" and liked the idea of personal stories and drama connecting people. She attended Playback Theatre training in London and wanted to form a local group.

A workshop was held in May RePlay Theatre Together at Hastings White Rock Theatre2003 to introduce others to the ideas of Playback Theatre. The founder members were soon deep into the challenges of seeking a grant from Awards for All. Others joined the group and training was undertaken with an experienced Playback Theatre group called Playback South, from London.

The group has been able to rehearse free of charge in the White Rock Theatre in Hastings, also a function room at the Ostrich public house in Robertsbridge, for which we are very grateful.

RePlay Theatre has attained training to enhance skills in Playback and other similar theatre styles (Forum Theatre.) Training focused on learning the forms used in Playback theatre, acting and voice work skills.

RePlay Theatre went public in April 2004 and since that time has undertaken performances and workshops in the South East of England.

Membership of the group has changed during this time and we would like to acknowledge with gratitude all whose who have supported us.

Hopes for the future

We hope to extend our theatre to more groups in the community through more public performances and workshops.
